The results are in! Following the conclusion of the 2022 USEMS/FSEM Essay Contest, we are delighted to announce that the judges have decided to award First Place to Dr Robert Atkinson.

The topic for the competition was entitled: Physical activity: “prescription-only medicine”, or available “over-the-counter”? – The Bigger Picture

It is our pleasure to congratulate Dr Robert Atkinson, the winner of this year’s USEMS/FSEM essay competition. He showed a fantastic understanding of SEM in his essay and displayed his knowledge of the topic. We are happy to continue this competition in the coming year, a great opportunity for younger colleagues to show their interest and commitment to the specialty. We are looking forward to continuing our ongoing relationship with FSEM to continue to support students and doctors in their journey into SEM.

Attar Singh, USEMS President

As winner, Dr Atkinson will receive the prize of £100.

The contest, organised by the Undergraduate Sports & Exercise Medicine Society in partnership with the Faculty, was open to undergraduates and recent graduates and invited entrants to submit essays in the style of journal editorials on a choice of subjects.

We would like to place on record our thanks to the exam markers for volunteering their time to support this competition.
