Update on Continued Progress Towards Establishing CSEM
We’re delighted to share our significant milestones in the establishment of our new College of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine (CSEM).
Key Milestones Reached
Over the last month, we have:
- Finalised the College’s Articles of Association, enabling us to formally set up the College as a company.
- Received confirmation from Companies House that the College is now officially incorporated.
- Submitted our completed charity application to the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
These represent major steps forward in our transition, and we want to extend a sincere thank you to our Boards, staff teams, and the College Steering Group for their dedication and support throughout this process.
What Happens Next?
Charity Commission Review
The Charity Commission for England and Wales can take several months to assess applications. Once we receive approval, we will proceed with the next step:
- Submitting the charity application to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). This is typically a faster process, but regulations require us to complete each stage in the correct order.
Building the College Behind the Scenes
While we await the Commission’s decision, we are working intensively to prepare the operational foundations of the new College. To give you an insight, we’ve listed a few of the major project work:
- Developing our new website and CRM system
- Establishing all financial procedures for all of services; events and membership and setting up bank accounts; and financial platforms
- Completing a large HR process and transferring staff into the new organisation
- Creating or aligning policies and procedural documentation
- Electing our Councils and Committees
- Transferring contracts, services, and other operational functions
In parallel, our legal teams are drafting the transfer agreements that will formally move all assets into the new College and we will hold a final transfer vote. Once this is complete, both BASEM and FSEM will be dissolved, bringing the transition to its final phase.
This is a substantial programme of work, and we are immensely grateful for the commitment and expertise of everyone involved.
Keeping You Informed
Although we cannot confirm a definitive ‘go‑live’ date yet, we are committed to keeping all members fully informed. We know this is a significant and complex transition, and while there is still a great deal to do, please be assured that we are working as quickly and carefully as possible to ensure everything is ready for when the Charity Commission provides its response. Our teams are progressing at pace behind the scenes, and we will continue to keep you fully informed as each major step is reached.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we build a strong, unified College for the future.
