FSEM Statement on Planned Industrial Action by BMA Resident Doctors
The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM) fully supports the right of all doctors, including our resident colleagues, to raise legitimate concerns about their pay, working conditions, and wellbeing through lawful and constructive means, including industrial action.
Resident doctors are not only the future of the NHS but are also vital to the delivery of high-quality care today. Their contributions span across acute care, rehabilitation, and the promotion of long-term health, areas that are central to our specialty. We recognise the significant pressures they face and acknowledge that morale remains low. It is clear that further progress is needed to implement the commitments made following previous industrial action.
As a Faculty, we are deeply committed to the principle that patient care must remain the shared priority of all stakeholders. We are concerned that continued disruption to services could have a detrimental impact on patients, particularly those requiring ongoing rehabilitation and musculoskeletal care.
We therefore echo the AoMRC’s call for urgent, meaningful dialogue between the BMA and the Government. A sustainable resolution must be found, one that values the dedication of our resident doctors and ensures the resilience of the NHS workforce.
