In October, representatives from the Faculty joined delegates from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in heading to Chennai, India for RCSEd’s flagship conference.

FSEM President Dr Natasha Jones and Past President Dr John Etherington OBE made the trip to attend Chenai 2022, the first in a planned series of RCSEd International Conferences, while Faculty Council Member Dr Jon Houghton also delivered a lecture remotely.

The FSEM sessions took place on Sat 8 Oct, with Dr Etherington delivering a talk entitled “Sport and Exercise Medicine: developing a specialty to enhance the health of the nation”. Dr Houghton followed, with a discussion of standards and governance in elite sport, before Dr Jones ended by highlighting the Moving Medicine series of resources.

In a separate session, Dr Jones also took the stage to discuss the translation of Moving Medicine resources, and the launch of a pilot scheme to translate patient-facing resources into Tamil.

Dr Jones said: “It was an honour to be invited to attend the first International conference from RCSEd, as well as a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything we do here at the Faculty.”
