The Practicioner: Faculty article
Time to encourage patients to take more exercise
Faculty Fellow Dr David Pugh has penned a Special Report in The Practitioner’s September issue on the ways GPs can encourage patients to exercise.
The three page report highlights the benefits of physical activity, recommended targets and strategies to encourage physical activity uptake. With research suggesting one in four people would become more active if advised to do so by a doctor or nurse, it is hoped the article will help raise understanding of exercise prescription within the GP community. The article also includes an explanation of the role of Sport and Exercise Medicine, and the Faculty’s aim to increase the number of SEM specialists in the wider NHS.
The Faculty warmly thanks David for kindly agreeing to write the article on our behalf. The full report can be viewed in the September 2012 edition of The Practitioner.
