The Process of Granting a Therapeutic Use Exemption
Sport & Exercise – Bringing us all together 2017 will offer delegates key learning on Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) during a session dedicated to this area of sport medicine on the 13th October 11am, Assembly Rooms Bath.
The 4th annual BASEM and FSEM (UK) conference is offering complete sessions of evidence based learning for consultants, physicians, GPs, physiotherapists, and those working across Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Professor Nick Webborn OBE, Clinical Professor at the Centre for Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine (SESAME) University of Brighton and Medical Director of the Sportswise clinic based at the University, will be presenting The Process of Granting a TUE during this key BASEM session.
Professor Webborn will review the criteria for granting a TUE and how the committee considers each application. Through the use of case examples, there will be advice on improving physician applications to ensure speedy processing and discussion around some of the common pitfalls that can occur – any TUE application must meet the international standard as determined by the World Anti-Doping Association.
Professor Webborn has extensive experience in the field of anti-doping. As a member of the IPC Medical Committee (2001-2006) he helped develop the IPC anti-doping code and establish the initial TUE system for the IPC. He has since been a member of the IPC anti-doping and TUE committees and has worked on the UKAD TUE committee (formerly through UK Sport) since 2004. He is a member of the WADA Prohibited List Expert Group. Professor Webborn was elected Chair of the British Paralympic Association in March.
This year, the conference is delivered in conjunction with the University of Bath, celebrating its 50th Anniversary, with sessions by both the University of Bath and Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport Exercise and Osteoarthritis. View the programme.
