Sport England Active Lives Survey
The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM) welcomes the new Sport England Active Lives survey which suggests that around 60% of men and women are ‘active’.
This optimistic estimate, based on a large survey, covers forms of exercise not previously taken into account. The FSEM would welcome validation of this data against more objective measurements of physical activity levels.
It is notable that older people and people with long term conditions and disability are still the least active in our society. This underlines the need to engage the NHS fully when planning community exercise interventions.
