Providing Physical Activity Interventions for People with Musculoskletal Conditions

Influencing the NHS with regard to developing MSK care in the UK is a large part of the work carried out by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, on behalf of its membership.
Meeting MSK stakeholders to discuss existing models of care and looking at how the FSEM, representing Doctors and Consultants highly skilled in MSK Medicine, can influence NHS commissioning.
Professor Mark Batt, Past President of the FSEM and Director of the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis has been an advisor to the report Providing physical activity interventions for people with musculoskeletal conditions, aimed at organisations responsible for commissioning and local services.
Professor Mark Batt, FFSEM and NHS SEM Consultant comments:
“This is an important document produced by Arthritis Research UK in partnership with the Department of Health, NHS England and Public Health England. As an advisor to the project and a NHS SEM Consultant I know the value of this work as we encourage ‘more people to be more active more of the time’ – even those with arthritis.
“Physical Activity is good for helping patients prevent and treat OA, as well as co-morbidites that very typically co-exist. Building upon UK CMO guidelines the report provides practical Physical Activity advice for those with Musculoskeletal conditions”
