President’s Update May 2018
As we continue to raise the profile of Sport and Exercise Medicine, for its skills and research which are relevant to our modern day NHS, physical activity and mental health has long been on or radar. The Faculty has produced a new joint position statement with the Sports and Exercise Special Interest Group of the Royal College of Psychiatry – The Role of Physical Activity and Sport and Mental Health, it is also supported by the mental health charity Mind.
Physical activity has been shown to have a strong and positive influence on mental wellbeing and some mental illnesses and this statement has been produced as an evidence based reference point for the Sport and Exercise Medicine community, all healthcare professionals, sports participants, parents and schools.
You can view our full library of position statements here.
Our Part 2 Membership Exam was held on the 26th April at the Royal College of Surgeons and I am pleased to say that the exam ran at full capacity. We have seen a marked increase in the number of candidates sitting both the part 1 and part 2 FSEM (UK) Membership Exam in SEM since we opened it up to all medical doctors.
