President’s Update January 2016

We welcome in the New Year and a second Vice President

Following the election of Dr Justin Hughes as Vice President earlier in 2015, I am pleased to announce that Dr Natasha Jones has been elected as our second Vice President.

The Faculty Council decided to create two Vice President positions in order to share the increasing responsibilities of the role in the development of the specialty.  I’d like to extend my congratulations to both Natasha and Justin and welcome them to our Executive Council Team in 2016. Natasha is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the English Institute of Sport and Oxford University NHS Trust, and Justin is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise Medicine and Rehabilitation for London Bridge Hospital. Both will serve a three year term in office.

I am starting my three year term as President by taking a look at where the Faculty and the specialty is now and where it needs to develop. This process will benefit from the results of our strategic planning day, held on the 26th January. As always, we welcome Fellows and Members’ feedback on the direction of the specialty. We have some weighty issues to consider, including the shape of training, positioning the specialty to offer an increasingly relevant product to the NHS and ensuring we continue to support the needs of all of our consultants and doctors.

Dr Paul D Jackson, President of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK
