President’s Update December 2017
This month we welcome Dr John Etherington as our new President Elect. John will work with me on the Executive Council over the next year and take up the role as President in December 2018, congratulations John.
The last quarter of the year has been a busy time for the Faculty as our membership of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) begins to bear fruit. We are now engaging with a number of AoMRC committees including Appraisal & Revalidation, Choosing Wisely and Guidance of Clinical Content of Electronic Records. We are also looking to the AoMRC for guidance on Brexit, keeping a close eye on developments which may affect our workforce and patients. You can read the AoMRC’s Brexit position statement here.
If the Faculty is making an official response to a consultation or policy issue we will publish our final responses in the policy and public affairs area of our website.
This brings me onto the Faculty website, we have been working behind the scenes this year to develop a new website for the Faculty to make it more user friendly, as well as including a member area. The new site will be tested this month, and launched in January. We will be asking our membership a few questions about their working patterns as part of the launch, vital information for the Faculty to engage with Health Education England’s Workforce Planning Reviews an promote the value of Sport and Exercise Medicine in the NHS.
As the holiday season approaches, I wish you all the very best and I look forward to keeping you informed through my updates in 2018.
Dr Paul D Jackson
President of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK
