Head of Specialty: Sport and Exercise Medicine
Health Education London and The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine are appointing a Head of Specialty: Sport and Exercise Medicine (London)
(Secondment – 1 PA per week)
Applications are invited for this key post from consultants with experience in medical education and training. This is a joint appointment between Health Education England and the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine. The successful applicant will help to lead the development of Sport and Exercise Medicine specialty training in London.
The initial tenure of the appointment will be for one year (initially up to March 31st2014). This may be extended by the agreement of all parties. The post will be a part-time secondment from the successful applicants’ employing Trust.
The specialty head will be part of the development of London’s medical education commissioning function and will be a member of the commissioning team led by the Directors of Education and Quality for the 3 London Local Education and Training Boards.
The post offers an exciting challenge for an individual who has some experience of the management of postgraduate medical education and training. The successful applicants will have the leadership skills to help shape training in the medical specialties at a time of major change in the delivery of patient care. They will also have the vision to understand the many new opportunities for modernising and improving learning and training outcomes through expert commissioning of education.
The Specialty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, one of 15 Specialty Schools in London, is responsible for ensuring that the approved curricula are delivered across all medical specialties. By bringing together the 3 Local Education and Training Boards of London, the School provides a structure that:
- Promotes and support excellence in education and training.
- Assures that the quality of education and training for Sport and Exercise Medicine trainees meets the standards laid down by the GMC.
- Ensures that the delivery of training enhances the quality and safety of care to patients now and in the future.
The Head of Specialty will work with a team of training managers including Training Programme Directors and educational supervisors and is responsible for all London SEM trainees.
