Changes in TUE Policy
You will have recently seen that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the 2022 Prohibited List and a summary of key changes –https://www.wada-ama.org/en/media/news/2021-09/wada-publishes-2022-prohibited-list.
One of the major modifications to the 2022 List is that WADA will prohibit local glucocorticoid injections in-competition. In response to this change, UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has developed a new TUE policy that sets out guidance for how athletes and doctors should comply with the changes to the way glucocorticoids will be regulated in sport.
The policy will come into effect on 01 January 2022.

The following documents have also been developed to support the policy:
- A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document which provides additional information on the practical implications of the policy
- A bespoke TUE application form which includes a pre-application checklist to aid doctors in collating the required medical evidence prior to administering a local glucocorticoid injection
These documents can also be found on the Medicine Hub (Special Topics section) on the UKAD website.
It is important to note that the daily dosing parameters for inhaled salbutamol will also be changing from 01 January 2022. Please refer to WADA’s Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Note for further information on the permitted dosage of inhaled salbutamol in 2022.
