BASEM & FSEM: What a new organisation could mean for you

By Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK, 20 Apr, 2023 | 3 min read

On 31 March, BASEM and FSEM circulated the ‘Outcome Report’ from our consultation exercise looking at the future of the two organisations and how we might best work together to further the SEM agenda in the UK. We particularly considered the potential for dissolving both organisations and re-forming as a College of SEM.

Deciding whether to reform as a new organisation or remain as separate but closely collaborating organisations is an important decision for our members, here’s some additional information to the Outcome Document that will help you make an informed vote on Thursday 18th May.

Proposed Membership Structure
In this document, we would like to take this opportunity to discuss the proposed structure of the new College – Proposed Membership Structure.

We had a joint working group focussing on the membership structure throughout the consultation process and you can read more about their recommendations in the Outcome Report from page 10

Exams
Since the launch of the Outcome Report we have had some questions on our specialty exam, FSEM’s Chair of Examination Committee Dr Alastair Nicol has taken some time to clarify some key points, in this document – read more here.

Specific Membership Queries
We would like also like to take this opportunity to discuss how the proposed changes might affect you based on your job role. You’ll find information specific to SEM Consultants, GPs, AHPs and SPRs.
