Careers in SEM can be varied in this broad-based specialty with a multi-disciplinary approach, SEM practitioners can work in a number of settings providing medical care across sport and exercise at all levels.

SEM in the NHS

Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) services in the NHS are flexible and can be delivered in primary, secondary and intermediate care settings. SEM physicians also work in the NHS delivering Exercise Medicine Services and providing Medical Musculoskeletal Services.

There are presently 14 full time equivalent consultants working within the NHS, and these numbers should increase as growing numbers of medical professionals choose to specialise in the area. The Faculty is currently actively working to increase the number of Sport and Exercise Medicine positions in the NHS.

Pure Sports Medicine (PSM) is looking for expressions of interest from Consultants in Sports and Exercise Medicine for current and future sessions at various locations across London. Prospective candidates must be on the specialist register of Sport and Exercise Medicine. They are looking for Consultants now and also as the company expands its clinics across London.

PSM prides itself on the delivery of a high standard of MSK and SEM medical management with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach, working together with each clinic focussed on patient welfare and management.

There is a strong focus on in-house and external CPD which Consultants are expected to contribute to. Evidence of working in previous MDTs is highly desirable as well as experience working across various sports and musculoskeletal clinics.

Military Medical Personnel is urgently looking for a Locum Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine or Rheumatology & Rehabilitation at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court in Epsom, Surrey. This is a full time locum post  delivering musculoskeletal rehabilitation for young injured service personnel.

The post holder will have full registration with the GMC, and will have trained in and hold a CCT ( or be within 3 months of completion) in Sports and Exercise Medicine or Rheumatology and Rehabilitation and be on the specialist register. Experience in the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries is essential and experience of rehabilitation within the armed services is highly desirable.
