ACCEA Information
The Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) advises the Secretary of State for Health on which consultants working in NHS organisations in England and Wales should receive national Clinical Excellence Awards. It also undertakes a monitoring role in respect of employer-based (local) awards to establish that all NHS Trusts and organisations are in adherence to the principles of the Scheme. Although ACCEA covers England and Wales, Wales has its own separate secretariat which looks after the paperwork and administrative matters. The final Welsh recommendations are seen by ACCEA along with those from England. The contact at the Welsh Secretariat is Ian Owen, Tel: 02920 823487, email: ian.owen@wales.gsi.gov.uk
Scotland and Northern Ireland operate consultant reward schemes, unconnected to ACCEA but run along similar lines. It is believed that they accept citations but if you wish to support candidates in Scotland or Northern Ireland, it is suggested you contact them to establish their exact procedures.
