FSEM appraisals
Appraisal, as it is currently conducted by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, is a valuable element of continuing professional development and might reasonably be expected of all Fellows and Members in good standing. However, undertaking this type of appraisal, which is a formative not summative process, will almost certainly not count directly towards any revalidation process within the specialty, as visualed in the Donaldson report - "Good Doctors/Safer Patients", leading to re-validation with the GMC.
The appraisal visualed in the Donaldson Report is effectively performance management and would ordinarily be associated with an employer based approach.
